Outdoor exposure is not one environment
A sheltered urban enclosure, a coastal telecom cabinet and a launch-site support frame can all be outdoors while experiencing very different UV, salt, humidity, temperature and maintenance conditions.
Build the system from the substrate outward
- Identify the substrate
- Define corrosion and weather exposure
- Select cleaning and pretreatment
- Choose powder chemistry for UV, appearance and chemical requirements
- Define film build, cure and inspection criteria
Plan for handling after coating
Packaging, installation tools, fasteners and field handling can damage otherwise well-specified coatings. The project plan should protect finished surfaces and define repair expectations when permitted by the specification.
