What the test is for
Salt-spray testing exposes coated specimens to a controlled corrosive environment for a specified duration. It is useful when a customer specification calls for an accelerated corrosion benchmark and defines how the specimen is prepared and evaluated.
Why hours alone are not enough
A requirement such as '1,000 hours salt spray' is incomplete without the test method, substrate, pretreatment, scribe condition, evaluation method and allowable corrosion or blistering.

- Applicable test method and revision
- Exposure duration
- Specimen preparation
- Scribe condition if applicable
- Maximum allowable creep, blistering or corrosion
- Reporting and sampling requirements
